Words

Words

The words that we say
Every single one matters.
They tumble from our lips
And like seeds, they scatter.

Through the air to the ears
Of those who are listening-
If there’s a chord to be struck
Then some words are glistening.

Up to us to correct
When words are not what was meant,
We want or we hope
The right message is sent.

But when seeds are sown
With violence and hate
And we do not correct them
Or correct them too late-

What results is on us
We carry the blame
And if cruel messages are intended
We carry the shame.

Don’t tell me you want
A country undivided
When your empty words
Are so clearly one sided.

Shame on you, Mr. President,
For the seeds you have sown.
For the messages of hate
That you have well known.

I pray for our world
I pray for our nation
I pray we find words
For a new conversation.
