It’s the last day of 2014 and I don’t know about you but I’m ready for a Brand New Year. This morning as I sat with my coffee I wrote down all the words and images that flooded my mind. Typically I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions but this year I found that there were some things that needed to be noted, that needed to be brought into the light. I think it was more of a note to self based on recent patterns of thinking, recent reflections on myself.
I’m calling them my New Year’s Reminders.
Learn to treat myself as I would my best friend. Listen, reflect, see the positive, encourage myself to let things go. Stop beating myself up (I seem to do it better than anyone.)
Let go of things that no longer work. It may be habits, it may be “shoulds”, it may be relationships. Let things go with kindness, not out of anger or negativity, just simply release them with a kind goodbye.
Put my feet on what matters to me. Be there for the people who need me and be truly “there” when I’m with them.
Do the things I always say I don’t have time for. Write more. Read more. Dance more.
Think before I speak. Remember the advice of considering “Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?”
Gratitude. Gratitude. Gratitude.
These are things we all know and heavens knows we see enough sayings on Facebook to be constantly reminded of them but it’s crucial to bring them to the forefront again and again and remind ourselves of their importance.
And one final New Year’s Reminder:
It’s time for me to learn to make better waffles.
Happy New Year, my friends!
